When can I start exercising after the delivery?
Most changes in the body from being pregnant are back to normal within 4-6 weeks after delivery. Isn’t that amazing!
If you had a normal delivery without complications there’s a great benefit in returning to exercise soon. It’s important though to do it gradually and to be very mindful of how it feels, not pushing any limits.
So when can you start to exercise? You can actually start exercising right away after the delivery. Just make sure your training schedule is helping your body to repair and is not putting extra strain on your body. Exercises that help your body to recover are walks, kegel exercises (pelvic floor muscles training) and stretching exercises. If you had a c-section done you should consult with your doctor when it’s all clear to start exercising.
Even weight-lifting is ok as long as you listen to your body and avoid everything that hurts. Start with very light weights and take your time (weeks or months) to gradually get back to your old training habits.
